Today we took the family out. I so wanted to get out of the house. When you are out number as I am sometimes it is hard to get out to do many things. Although the older the kids are getting the easier it seems to get. So, Brooks had the day off so we all headed toward Springfield, Ohio. Being the Independence holiday we thought a trip to the Air Force Museum would be a great education trip for the kids. We were able to discuss to them about the men and women who flew these cool planes and why. The kids really seemed to enjoy it and their favorite part for many of them seemed to be a purple plane and the astronaut food samples they had on display. After we went through the museum we took the kids outside to see the few planes that they had on display there. There was this guy with a bird sitting near the playground and he offered to show the kids this bird. For those that know me I am not much of a bird fan at all so I did keep my distance. Austin and Bryce were the only ones that was interested in it. So, the man allowed them to hold the bird. Bryce tried to grab it right off the bat. He is fearless when it comes to animals. After the museum we went and got some lunch and then headed over to Young's Dairy. This was our first time there but heard some great things about it. The kids loved the goats. I think the highlight for them was feeding and petting the goats other then the driving range. Yes, they did have a driving range there and we thought it would be a fun experience to take the kids and not to mention Brooks was also giving me a beginner lesson in golf. Not sure if I will ever be good at it but I do find a since of enjoyment out of the sport so far. The kids each hit some balls and did pretty well. Hyrum of course, who attends to be our one who excels at any sport caught on really quick. Bryce and Austin, were hilarious watching as they tried to hit the ball. I am wondering if they left dints in the ground because it looked like they were bashing that then ever hitting a ball. The girls did pretty good. Hannah enjoyed in but the other three girls seemed like they did not have much interest in the sport. Emily enjoyed placing the balls on the tee for everyone else the most.
After our bucket of balls were gone we went and got the kids some ice cream. Hannah for some reason knew that they would have ice cream there and that's what she was looking forward to over everything we had planned that day. At the museum she constantly reminded us about ice cream and how she was ready to go to the dairy. So, Brooks bought the kids this humongous bowl of ice cream to split. One for the girls and one for the boys. Neither one of them could finish the bowls but they sure enjoyed trying.
We thought we would stop by Middlesfork Reservoir to check on boat rentals. We thought that one day this may be a fun activity for our family to do. We then took out a couple kites we purchased at the museum and started to fly them with the kids. It was a great day for flying a kite. The kids enjoyed it. Lindsey, still laughs about this experience today when we talk about it because she flew her kite into a tree. She is proud of it. Then the kids asked if they could feed the geese. So, of course as any prepared family outing we had a supply of bread on hand in the van. (in case someone got hunger between meals while we were away we could feed them a PB&J sandwich.) So, we got out of the van and started passing out the bread. These Geese were crazy ones. They ran up to us very quick and surrounded the kids. They all started to get freaked out by them. Tossed what bread they had in their hands and bolted back to our van. It was pretty comical to see their reactions but I did not realize how scared they were until Lindsey started pounding on the door in the van to let her in. It was one of those moments that you had to have been there to appreciate.
After, the tragic geese experience we headed home. Knocked out some outdoor chores like mowing the lawn and so on before going in for the night. Bathed the kids and they were asleep in seconds. Which meant Brooks and I were able to enjoy a nice movie together. It was a great day and one the kids still continue to talk about which is a good sign that they enjoyed it as much as Brooks and I did.
